The National Institute of Standards and Technology ensures accurate and compatible measurements through the development, certification, and distribution of Standard Reference Materials. NASAΓÇÖs Monodisperse Latex Reactor was flown on the shuttle and, in the micro-gravity environment of space, was used to produce nearly perfect spheres that NIST sells as reference measurement standards for flow devices. The latex spheres have the distinction of being the first commercial product produced in space.
